Provide legal advice to corporate and individual clients on various tax-related issues including tax and estate planning and strategy, tax compliance for a variety of business structures such as sole proprietorship, partnership, limited liability company, C corporation, and S Corporation; Set up various complex trusts for individual estate planning purpose such as Irrevocable Life Insurance Trust, Charitable Remainder Unitrusts, Special Need Irrevocable Trust, Intentionally Defective Grantor Trusts; Prepare and Draft wills, trust declarations and memoranda to meet clients' estate planning goals; Assist not-for-profit businesses in obtaining tax-exempt 501(c)(3) status, reestablishing exemption status, and advising on Form 990 special requirements; Advise businesses on state and local tax obligations, including withholding, payroll, sales and use tax, income tax, and property tax obligations, and assist in filing requirements.
Represent clients in tax-related disputes and controversies, such as assisting clients in collecting evidence during tax audit examination period and drafting letters to the IRS examiner to present arguments, submitting protest letter to the IRS Appeal office, communicating and negotiating with the IRS Collections agents; Negotiate tax-related compromises with the IRS and revenue agents of the New York State, including applying for Offer in Compromise and Installment Payment; Resolve issues including passport suspension due to outstanding tax liabilities and the release of tax levy over bank accounts and properties; Defend clients in tax-related civil litigation; Draft, prepare, and file legal memoranda, motions, and petitions with U.
S.
Tax Court, Federal District Court and New York State Court.
Perform comprehensive evaluation of clients' circumstances, investigate relevant facts, and identify potential legal issues by in person interviews, teleconference meetings, reviewing tax returns and financial documents; Conduct in-depth legal research and analysis on complex tax issues by using Westlaw, LexisNexis, or Bloomberg; Provide accurate and up-to-date tax law changes both Federal and State level to the team and clients.

or foreign equivalent) in Law and a license to practice law in the State of New York, plus courses in Trusts and Estates & Civil Tax Controversies and Litigation.
